She is the daughter of Zorian's classmate Kael (a morlock). Her maternal grandmother, Fria Tverinov, was a witch[1]. Both Fria and Kana's mother, Namira[2], died in the Weeping[3]. Kana looks to be around 3 years old[3]. She is friends with Kirielle when Zorian brings her to school with him[4]. When Nochka becomes friends with Kirielle she also joins them, but being much younger she ends up being the third wheel[5]. Imaya Kuroshka, Kael's and (in some restarts only) Zorian's landlord, describes her as quiet and withdrawn[6].
